This
morning, I was to go for an official assignment at Lekki Phase 1. I prepared
with my morale as high as Kilimanjaro (mind you, Lekki is in
Nigeria, Africa. So don’t expect me to use Everest). I went out of my house, crossed the
first ‘class A’ road, crossed the second as well (of counter traffic) and then stood at the bus top where
I waited to board a bus. This was where the whole drama began.
It was as if
the Sun suddenly took notice of us and remembered the harm humans have been
causing the ozone layer. He (Mr Sun) then used the opportunity to revenge
on behalf of his friend Ozone. He began to fire hot arrows of solar radiation
at us. We had no option but to shield ourselves with our handkerchiefs. But we
were affected since Mr Sun was so big and strong; we had sweat drip off our
skin. Thank God we triumphed after all.
As I waited
for a bus, I noticed everyone had developed wings except for some few and me.
For some time I wondered why and how it all happened. Then I realized that as
soon as a bus came, people flew in from my left and right. What? With the
twinkle of an eye? This was not rapture? And even if it were, we are to be
raptured into heaven not into a bus. It felt like I was in slow motion.
In my
confused state, more buses came and before I looked at a suitable seat,
someone had flown into the bus. I began to get determined to get into the next
bus that came through. Just then, I had my own copy of wings which grew as fast
as the others. I smiled, now understanding fully how it worked. The next bus
came and before you could think of saying JACK ROBINSON, I was seated
comfortably in the bus. Wow! Such efficient wings. I smiled because
of my victory as we moved…Just then, my friend Lady Heart whispered to me “Welcome Back to
Lagos”.
Still your friend and Brother Ikpa...
